This paper explores the semiotic dimensions of numbers, arguing that numerical values extend far beyond basic arithmetic to carry profound symbolic and semantic weight within specific contexts. The contextual non-interchangeability of certain numbers underscores their unique symbolic significance, demonstrating that each figure possesses a distinct semiotic value tailored to its specific textual environment. This principle is particularly evident in the recurrent use of the number forty in religious practices, such as the repetition of prayers and periods of spiritual devotion. The findings indicate that the number forty is far from a mere abstract digit; it holds a uniquely rich semiotic and symbolic resonance. This uniqueness explains its deliberate deployment in pivotal Quranic contexts: the appointed time of prophecy, the wandering of the Children of Israel, and the milestones of human development and maturity. These contexts emphasize themes of divine communion, trial, spiritual refinement, and cognitive maturity, ultimately symbolizing a transformative journey toward perfection that aligns with God's cosmic laws.
